On January 9th at 9:51 pm, there was a earthquake with a 7.1 magnitude. This earthquake happened 135 miles from Brus Laguna, Honduras. There was potential for tsunami waves for several areas including the Caribbean, Central America and even Mexico. “Tsunami waves reaching 0.3 to 1 meters above the tide level are possible for some coasts of Belize, Cuba, Honduras, Mexico, the Cayman Islands and Jamaica,” according to the USGS. People were encouraged to evacuate to their homes and stay away from the shorelines until conditions improved.
