On Wednesday, February 14th, sexual harassment claims made towards olympic gold medalist Shaun White resurfaced after the 31 year old won his third gold medal in the men’s halfpipe event. During a press conference after the event, many reporters asked about the allegation made in 2016 by his former band mate, Lena Zawaideh. Shaun tried to dismiss the allegations by saying “I’m here to talk about the Olympics, not gossip and stuff.” He received lots of backlash for referring to the allegation as gossip, considering this is a very sensitive topic. He later apologized saying, “I’m truly sorry that I used the word ‘gossip, it was a poor choice of words to describe such a sensitive subject in the world today.” Lena Zawaideh made the allegations saying that he sexual harrassed her, sending lewd text messages and explicit videos she said made her very uncomfortable. The suit also refers to wrongful termination and breach of contract. The lawsuit was settled in 2017 for an undisclosed amount, but you can add this to the long list of allegations made in media today.
