This week will mark the final week that Caroll Spinney, who is better known as Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch on Sesame Street performs or voices his respective characters after forty-nine years. Spinney’s age and problems with balance and nerves in his right hand are among the causes of his retirement. His replacement, Matt Vogel is well established in playing Big Bird in recent seasons, with Spinney dubbing over Vogel’s performance in some episodes. Spinney is among the last of the original Muppeteers alongside Frank Oz, with the rest (Jerry Nelson, Jim Henson, Richard Hunt, and company) having passed away one by one.
