Indonesia’s Lion Airline suffered a tragedy recently when a Boeing 737 MAX 8 crashed on Monday. The plane in question had only been in use since August of 2017. The pilot radioed air traffic control in Jakarta asking for permission to turn back only 13 minutes after taking off. The cause of the crash has been ruled as “technical difficulties” by Lion Air’s chief executive. However, due to Indonesia’s past of poor aviation safety, the cause is most likely human error. The aircraft has a maximum capacity of 210, but only 181 were on board, including the crew. Only 6 bodies, and about 21 body bags worth of debris and body parts have been found. The story is still developing. Condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
