Refinery Explosion

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating an industrial accident that sent three refinery workers to the hospital Tuesday morning.

According to a state fire marshal, there was a minor explosion during equipment maintenance. Three men were burned according to officals.

According to New Castle County Paramedics, they took in a 39-year-old worker who was burned on his face and arms and was in critical condition. A 36-year-old man had burns on his face and neck and is in serious condition. And the third worker, a 22-year-old, who sustained burns to his feet and he was in stable condition when transported him to the hospital. The three workers were sent to Christiana Hospital and later transferred to the burn unit in Crozer Medical Center in Upland, PA. 

The explosion is currently under investigation.

Note: A state report later determined the fire’s cause was due to a lack of protocol. All of the burn victims are expected to survive.
