The Delaware Memorial Bridge was shut down this past Sunday due to a chemical leak at a nearby bio-ethanol plant which closed the bridge for nearly. 8 1/2 hours.
Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary Shawn Garvin said there were two threats at the Croda Inc plant that forced the bridge to shutdown. According to Garvin, nearby pedestrians could have inhaled the toxic flammable gas, as well it could have simply caught on fire and spread to nearby cars on the bridge.
It is still unclear what caused the leak.
