Dorrell Green has been selected as the next superintendent of the Red Clay Consolidated School District. After the vote on Wednesday, the school board is currently undergoing contract negotiations with Green, after he leaves his post as the Director of the Office of Innovation and Improvement for the Delaware Department of Education.

Green beat the incumbent Deputy Superintendent, Hugh Broomall, receiving five of the nine votes from the board members responsible. Green has 19 years of experience under his belt in education, beginning as an elementary school teacher in the Christina School District, then moving to the Brandywine School District, where he served as an Assistant Superintendent. From 2017 to the recent vote, Green headed the pioneer administration, the Office of Innovation and Improvement.

This marks the end of a tumultuous process of interviews, board meetings, public forums and executive sessions in the wake of Mervin B. Daugherty’s leaving as superintendent.
