The Rough Launch of Cyberpunk 2077

Announced all the way back in 2012, The action role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 finally launched on December 10th, 2020 after countless delays. To the dismay of many customers, the game riddled with glitches and oddities that have yet to be ironed out. And on top of that, the game performs poorly on even the highest end computers. In a statement issued out on December 14th, the developers of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red, explained that over the next few months updates and patches will be released to iron out the glitches many are facing, while also improving performance. However, since the cat is already out of the bag that the game clearly was not ready for its December 10 launch date, many users have already refunded the game. And while CDPR is disappointed by this, they completely understand.

One key part of the release controversy is Cyberpunk 2077’s epilepsy inducing imagery. Many users suffered epileptic seizures playing the game, and it’s believed that the game may have used imagery that would specifically cause seizures in those affected by it, but this has yet to be proven true or false. In the game’s 1.04 patch, changes were made to reduce the risk of seizures. In one of the game’s minigames, called a “Braindance”, the game will flash bright red and white lights rapidly. This effect is actually used by neurologists to diagnose and treat epilepsy in those affected by it.
