On September 30th, 2023 a Sea Lion escaped its enclosure in the Central Park Zoo and began exploring the zoo. Due to the extreme flooding occurring in the city, the water in the sea lion’s enclosure rose so high that the sea lion was able to jump out of its environment. The zoo staff were monitoring the sea lion as she explored the area. Soon after the sea lion returned back to her familiar surroundings of the pool and the company of her two sea lion friends. Once the rain stopped, water levels receded and the sea lions were safely contained in their exhibit again, and thankfully no one including the sea lions were injured.
