On August 23rd, 2024, a 35-year-old man was shot and was taken to the hospital later that day he died. Residents around that area heard gunshots at around 10:10 am, and around 12:30 SWAT and Police Officers were seen taking at least 3 suspects into custody. New Castle County Police later identified the victim as Devonte Taylor from Wilmington. Following their investigation detectives from the Major Crime Squad and Evidence Detection Squad identified the suspect to be 27-year-old Michael Toombs from Claymont. Reports say that Devonte was meeting Michael at the Harbor House apartments looking for a new drug dealer. Michael was later charged with Six-counts including first-degree murder and first-degree robbery.
