Hurricane Helene first touched land late September 26 2024, hitting the Florida gulf coast along with Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. Hurricane Helene was a category 4 hurricane and has become the deadliest hurricane in nearly two decades since Hurricane Katrina, more than 200 deaths have been confirmed and many are still missing. A week after Helene hundreds of thousands were still left without power, most of it caused by flooding taking down power poles and wires. The aftermath of Helene left many without a home, food nor power, over 40,000 people in North Carolina have applied for disaster assistance. The federal emergency Management Agency has paid more than $6.2 million to survivors of Helene. Overall Hurricane Helene has damaged not only property but many families and workplaces, leaving Helene to set many records.
