The Conrad girls wrestling season finished this Sunday and it went really well. We had 5 girls go down to Smyrna High School to compete at the state tournament. Two of the girls entered the tournament being ranked first in their respective weight classes.
Junior Anggiel Gonzalez came into the tournament the reigning champion after winning first place in the 165 pound weight class last year. She came into the tournament after pinning every girl she’s faced all year. She won her first match by pin in 37 seconds. After that she went on to beat her next two opponents by a combined 17-4 while winning her second state championship. Congratulations to Anggiel Gonzalez.
Junior Vanessa Rodriguez-Reyes came into the tournament ranked 1st in the state in the 235 pound weight class. In her most recent event she came out on top winning the Red Clay girls wrestling championship. She finished second in the state tournament losing to Kasey James from William Penn. We are still really proud of her and what she has done this season. We know she will win it next year. Congratulations to Vanessa Rodriguez-Reyes
Sophomore Yoali Avida-Amador had a rough start to the season, however, she bounced back like a champ. She came into the state tournament being ranked the 5 seed in the 107 pound weight class, but that didn’t stop her. She came back like a champ and placed 3rd pinning a girl to make her 3rd in the state. We are really proud of the work she has put in to make a mid season comeback like she did. Congratulations to Yoali Avida-Amador.
We had two 8th grade girls wrestle in high school this year. Abby Rist in the 120 pound weight class and Rhyan McIntosh in the 185 pound weight class. Both of the girls did extremely well, finishing one match away from 4th place. Congratulations to both Abby Rist and Rhyan McIntosh.
