With Halloween right around the corner, costumes are officially being sold in stores. I often see little girls and boys in the store asking for costumes but there parents tell them no because “that’s a girls costume” or “that’s for boys”. The kids immediately look disappointed and I wonder why parents deny their kids something that makes them happy just because it wasn’t made “for boys” or “for girls”. It’s not just during Halloween that I see this. I see little boys asking for barbies and are denied them because “boys don’t play with barbies”. I see little girls who ask for action figure but are given dolls instead because “that’s what girls play with”. Who cares if something is made for the opposite gender? If something makes your kid happy, you should get it for them, regardless of what gender it was made for.
