On November 12, 2017, at the border region between Iraq and Iran, an earthquake of 7.3 magnitudes killed an estimated 580 people and injured another 7,460. The earthquake triggered multiple landslides as a result of all the shaking, which made rescue attempts all the more difficult. The region where the earthquake hit, houses more than 1.8 million people, and it has been estimated that at least 70,000 people will be in need of shelter just in the Sarpol-e Zahab region. As of now, this has been 2017’s deadliest earthquake, with tremors being felt all the way to Turkey, Israel, and Kuwait.
