Dress code is forever the hot topic between administration and students! The student dress code is meant to promote a safe and disciplined environment but has brought along stiff consequences for students. Conrad has provided leeway with the dress code as they modernized it over the years. While Conrad has taken steps forward another problem has been brought to our attention. The problem circulates around how the dress code is not body inclusive for young ladies. Although the student dress code doesn’t state that each girl has to be a certain size or weight, it does provide a lot of restrictions. For example, it states “Dress Slacks, Capris, Shorts, Skirts, and Jumpers must not extend more than 4 inches above the knee. The RCCSD student dress code, states “Any garments deemed inappropriately tight, short, or revealing… are prohibited”. The dress code is judged with a focus on the personal bias of teachers and administrators and what they deem as appropriate. Do you guys consider the height or curviness of the student before you approach them about how their outfit should fit? Even though some teachers and administrators don’t recognize it, the students do. There have been multiple conversations throughout the student community about how some young ladies fit within the standard of the dress code and others stand out. Isn’t it time we took steps forward as a school to view the dress code through a more inclusive lens?
