A person’s right to use deadly force in self-defense varies from state to state. Although state lawmakers have explored varying levels of gun control, Delaware maintains a liberal policy which allows anyone to open-carry a weapon and purchase and receive handguns upon background check approval on the same day. This year, the legislature banned homemade and 3D-printed guns, otherwise known as “ghost guns,” because they don’t have serial numbers or other identifying markings used to track a gun. It also prohibited perpetrators of domestic violence from accessing guns. But more controversial bills that would require training, a permit to buy a handgun, and limit certain types of magazines, have yet to move forward. Perhaps the recent school shooting in Michigan will help move them along.
