When you think of school you think of a place that challenges and enhances your intellect. In order for the school to properly operate you need teachers to help keep it afloat. They are the key component to the student’s education. Teachers have the power to impact a student’s mind and choices when given a chance. Conrad has many teachers who are influential whom both I and the student body appreciate. While the teachers of Conrad are nice certain comments over the years have made students wary. Examples of the comments are “Your people think differently”, “Oh you’re probably not financially stable”, “You kind of people annoy me the most” while pointing at the African American students, “I don’t know who raised you guys but they are doing a terrible job, you guys need to be more respectful to me like you would your parents”, “You can’t wear your cross because of religious purposes either take it off or put it away”, and many more. These quotes have been compiled from students who shall remain anonymous. This shows how unfortunately some of the teachers are inconsiderate and display ignorance. In the heat of the moment, a person might say what’s on their mind, but it isn’t deemed appropriate when you are demeaning a student. I’m aware that dealing with either middle or high school students can be challenging at times but as a teacher, certain responses are hurtful and can affect the student. In conclusion, while the teachers of Conrad are appreciated for their insight and kindness. Choose your words wisely when it comes to approaching students because in the long run negative comments will be remembered.
