After an increase in deaths among local poultry, Delaware Department of Agriculture announced the issue is caused by the avian flu. The avian flu causes lack of appetite, diarrhea, coughing, sneezing, nasal discharge, and a decrease in egg production for chickens. The virus has no impact on meat or eggs and currently there is no public health concern. The avian flu typically does not cause illness among people. This has been reported as an isolated incident, with most of the Delaware chicken production not affected.
