On September 9th, 2022, Disney released a trailer of the new live action ¨ The Little Mermaid¨ movie, set to release May 26th, 2023. This trailer caused quite the stir-up in the media based on Ariel being played by Halle Bailey, a African American actress. Some individuals believe that Ariel the character should remain white because she lives in the ocean and the bottom of the ocean does not receive much sun-light. Others view it as a light-hearted diverse character choice. Either way, mermaids have not been scientifically proven, so the argument is based on opinion and not fact.
