On April 8, 2023, the Delaware State Police swarmed the Christiana Mall because of an alleged shooting. The shooting occurred around 6:45 pm leaving three people injured as a result of gunfire and five people injured as a result of other instances outside of gunfire, although they were not life threatening injuries. Fortunately, no person was killed as a result of the altercation. Many stores within the mall went into lock-down after an altercation in the food court led to gun shots. As of April 19, 2023, one of the three suspects, a 17 year old, has been charged with the shooting. Two other suspects are still being searched and sought out for. The mall would continue to be open in the day following the incident as it was declared there is no harm to public safety.
