The online platform of Omegle created in 2009 has shut down after 14 years of being active. The platform works by pairing you with a random person using the site in video chat or regular texting. Although the intention of the website was to allow strangers to meet and make new connections many people on the site did not use it for its intended purpose but for rather vulgar purposes. This was especially conflicting when taking into account the fact the website allows for users as young as 13 years old with parental consent. The final blow to the website came after a $22m dollar lawsuit in which a woman blamed the site for pairing her with a predator who used threats in order to use her for sexual servitude. The owner of the website thought it would be the best option to shut down the website after 14 years of service, many people are calling for more security for children online.
