A mystery illness that can be highly contagious and deadly is affecting dogs across the United States. The most reported symptoms include coughing, sneezing, nasal and/or eye discharges, and lethargy. The first report of this illness was in Oregon in August. Oregon’s Department of Agriculture received more than a hundred reports from vets pertaining to this illness. The director of the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Lab, Kevin Snekvik, said pet owners should be aware of the symptoms while also keeping a close eye on their pets. Snekvik also advises against dog parks, congregations with unfamiliar dogs, and boarding pets during the holidays to slow the disease’s spread.
