The massive volcano in Iceland, which erupted most recently in 2010, erupted again on Monday, December 18th, 2023. This eruption is following weeks of earthquake activity in the area, when over 4,000 people had already been evacuated from the small town of Grindavik. Videos posted on social media show lava bursting from the 3.5 kilometer crack at a rate of 200 cubic meters per second. Unlike the disaster in 2010, this eruption has had no effects or disruptions to flights to and from Iceland, and international flights remain open. Iceland did so well preparing for this natural event that, fortunately, no casualties have been recorded.
