A pound of experimental lab-grown chicken meat is worth $9,000. Memphis Meats, a start-up that plans to change the poultry industry, created chicken meat using real animal cells. Supposedly, the chicken tastes the same as regular chicken, just spongier. This chicken is very expensive and was first created back in 2015 and planned to make their meat more affordable and worldwide by 2021. Now, in 2024, they are known as UPSIDE Foods and are known as the leading company in cell-cultured meat, seafood, and poultry products. You can visit their website upsidefoods.com to learn how far they’ve come since the first cell-cultured chicken meat.

Roslyn Barber, HS Reporter
Hi, my name is Roslyn Barber and I am in the 12th grade at Conrad. My pathway is Biomed. I have decided to join journalism because I enjoy writing about what’s happening now in the world and giving people the information they need. I think it is crucial that the students at Conrad are well informed about school-related activities and events occurring worldwide. I am very excited to be coming back to journalism this year.
