On Wednesday August 31st, the White House hosted a meeting to discuss the current teacher shortage affecting the nation. First lady Jill Biden met with national education and business leaders, administration officials and Cabinet members to build an action plan. The Education Department and Labor Department took part by encouraging local leaders to address the current issue, raise wages and expand preparation programs for teachers. Marty Walsh, Labor Secretary, is also setting his department to invest $100 million into educator apprenticeship programs. An important goal also addressed is helping teacher positions become more desirable, and for it to be easier to become a teacher.
