Mauna Loa, the world’s largest volcano located in Hawaii, is erupting for the first time since 1984. It has sparked an ashfall advisory today for Hawaii’s Big Island and any surrounding waters until 3 pm E.T. This eruption isn’t threatening any communities or flights, so no call for evacuation has been issued. According to the Hawaii Tourism Authority, less than a quarter of an inch of ashfall should accumulate on the island. Winds could start to carry fine ash and volcanic gas downwind, so people with respiratory issues are being warned to stay inside to not inhale any ash particles.
