August 28- The US expanded their previous restrictions on sales of Nvidia AI chips to China and Russia to also include several countries in the Middle East in an attempt to stop China’s use of the chips and slow their technological and military development. Nvidia stated that the restrictions would affect a portion of their A100 and H100 from reaching their customers in the Middle East without extra licensing requirements. These chips are typically used in the improvement of machine learning in artificial intelligence. The US government fears that the chips might make their way to ‘military end use’ or ‘military end user’ in China from their buyers in the Middle East. Nvidia has stated that the restrictions don’t pose an “immediate material impact” to the company’s income.
