On the night of September 7th 2023, the Argentinian National Football team played against the Ecuadorian National Football team in their first World Cup Qualifier game at the Estadio Ms Monumental in Argentina. The first half was uneventful with both teams not being able to hit the back of the net whilst also showing great defensive abilities. The second half showed much more action with Ecuadorian player Jose Cifuentes getting booked with a yellow card in the 61st minute, and the 7 time Ballon D’or winner Lionel Messi scoring an outrageous free kick from outside the 18 yard line giving Argentina a 1-0 win against Ecuador at home. With this win Argentina are at the top of the table in their World Cup qualification group giving them a great start to their road to the 2026 World Cup where they will hope to successfully defend their world title.
