Due too a new medication being developed for dogs may be able to live a longer and healthier life. The medication, LOY-001, is currently being tested by scientists. LOY-001 is expected to extend the lifespan of dogs. The medication is specifically designed for larger dogs since they tend to have shorter lifespans. LOY-001 works by interacting with a hormone in dogs which is believed to cause growth and age acceleration. When using this treatment plan, the dog would need to get a new injection every 6 months from a vet. At the moment the only known side effect is temporary gastrointestional distress. Before the medication can be approved more research needs to be conducted. The team is currently working on the design and development phase and if all goes well it could be approved and available to use as early as 2026.
