Officials in Sweden launched a competition for the “world’s ugliest lawn” as a way to bring attention to the mass amounts of water needed for a lawn. They want to lower the amount of water needed for a lawn, so they can preserve underground water reserves longer amidst the increasingly more intense droughts. Kathleen Murray, who lives in Sandford in Tasmania, Australia, won the competition. She won because her lawn was full of holes made by wild bandicoots, which prevented much grass from growing properly.
