Google searches for “My eyes hurt” hit a peak in the United States on April 9th, 2024, the day after the solar eclipse was seen over the country. Despite being warned by several sources to not look at the solar eclipse without proper eye wear, which can result in irreversible eye damage in seconds, people are now googling how to treat eye pain. There is no effective treatment for eye damage from looking at the solar eclipse. However, for some, it’s not even their fault. The American Astronomical Society warns “Counterfeit and fake glasses are polluting the marketplace in recent weeks.” Some brands on Amazon as well as some bikini brand glasses were recalled last minute as they were deemed unsafe.
