Protests In Iran

Protests In Iran

On September 16, 2022, a 22 year old Iranian woman, Mahsa Amini, died with suspicious circumstances.  Amini was arrested for not wearing her hijab “correctly” according to the Iranian government.  As a result, thousands of protesters marched through the streets (many college students, young men, and young women).  Since the strikes began, 15,915 protesters were detained, and 418 were killed.  Among the dead, the total number of children and teenagers also have risen.  At least 1,160 people are left injured, as the total number of participants also rises, surpassing 90,000.  From 2017-2021, Iran was subject to many protests due to water and resource shortages that were met with brutality leaving many dead.  Despite most protests, strikes, and riots ending with violence, it still doesn’t stop the Iranian people from speaking out.
