New Marvel Movie “The Marvels” Bombs At Box Office

The newly awaited Marvel film “The Marvels” starring Brie Larson and Samuel L Jackson has not done so well at the box office.

The film has only made $47 million in revenue, compared to other films such as Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, which made $118 Million in 2023, and Avengers Endgame, with a shattering $1.2 billion in revenue in 2019.

Critics blame the movie for being low because of streaming and the genre the movie proposes as being “unoriginal.” With a 62% score on Rotten Tomatoes, a site used by critics to determine how well a movie performs, it’s no wonder that the movie is deemed “bad”, despite having an 82% score from the audience.

Many also believe that the quality of Marvel movies and their content is directly related to the strikes by SAG-AFTRA and the WGA, which disrupted the MCU production and its related content. Others believe that the plots of the MCU simply aren’t giving, given how low the scores were for new shows and movies such as Secret Invasion which came out in June, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which came out in February. Other shows, like She-Hulk, have also proven to be low, with audiences complaining about bad writing and unnecessary character sequences, which Marvel has vowed to fix.

However, the movie can still be salvaged. With both strikes over, Marvel & theaters encourage those to seek out the new film, which was previously forbidden to be talked about under SAG-AFTRA guidelines during the strike. Despite negative reviews, you will have to see for yourself whether or not the film adheres to MCU standards if you’re a fan like me!
