On November 12, 2023, Xbox banned most controllers and accessories that aren’t “designed for Xbox” from use. The ban was intended to improve the player experience by making it more difficult for cheaters to use 3rd party products to gain unfair advantages and circumvent anticheats. This, however, may have the unintended consequence of some types of games such as competitive shooters more unfair for average players. This is because one of the 3rd party products not affected by the ban are XIM adapters, which allow users to play on Xbox with other console players while using a keyboard and mouse instead of a controller.
