Wolves In Chernobyl May Help Cure Cancer

Wolves In Chernobyl May Help Cure Cancer

A new study released February the 10th in 2024 suggests that there are mutant wolves roaming the abandoned streets of Chernobyl that have developed genomes that appear to be resilient to cancer. It’s been over 35 years since the city was abandoned by its civilians to survive the cancer-causing radiation blast. While humanity has yet to return, wildlife such as horses and wolves are now the ones who roam the evacuated wasteland. In 2014, researchers put radio callers on baby wolves in Chernobyl in an attempt to study how much radiation they would be exposed to in their lifetimes and how it affects them. Astonishingly, after being exposed to 11.28 millirem of radiation, which is six times the limit for a human to survive, they live perfectly normal lives everyday. They seem to have developed an altered immune system, similar to cancer patients undergoing cancer treatment.
