Josh Shapiro, Governor of Pennsylvania, announced that authorities decided to light these chemicals on fire saying it was a good thing. Meanwhile, the fire resulted in a toxic mushroom cloud reaching thousands of feet in the air. In response, a hazardous waste expert told Tucker Carlson, the Fox News political talk show host, that they essentially nuked East Palestine. While U.S. President Joe Biden refused to visit the derailment site, former U.S. President Donald Trump did, and he came with essential supplies which President Biden had not provided.
